What is a European Distributed Product?
European Distribution or parallel importation means that a medicinal product authorised in one member state can be marketed in another member state, where it is also authorised.
To legally import pharmaceutical products, obtaining a Parallel Import Authorisation (AIP) is necessary. This authorisation is granted by the AEMPS or EMA in the case of a specialty with European registration, and it requires the imported product to have identical quantitative and qualitative composition, pharmaceutical form, and therapeutic effects as the one previously authorised.
Once obtained, the Parallel Import Speciality (PDE) is assigned a national code that differs from that of the national presentation assigned by the AEMPS. Repackaging is required to meet the marketing regulations of the country of sale and may depend on the characteristics of the outer packaging, health authority requirements, and trademarks rights holder.
To ensure optimal quality standards and safety of EDPs, Mediwin adheres to Good Manufacturing Practices and Good Distribution Practices. Moreover, Mediwin complies with the Delegated Regulation (EU) 2016/161 and serialization requirements from the outset, including the unique identifier and tamper-evident devices on the secondary packaging.
